San Francisco and Baltimore

MAGNETO. 2016. Watercolor on paper, 9 × 12″.

I'll be at the San Francisco Comic Con this weekend, table B4 in Artist Alley. I'll be selling my prints and books, but will be happy to sign your own books if you've got 'em. My commission list is already full, but feel free to check on Saturday or Sunday if there are any new openings.

On the other side of the country, my dad, Joe Rivera, will be at Baltimore Comic Con, table 2502 in Artist Alley. (Here's a map.) He'll also have prints and books — just keep an eye out for his brand-spankin' new banner:

Daredevil

DAREDEVIL. 2016. Ink & watercolor on paper, 9 × 12″.

Just a heads up: if you'll be going to NYCC in October, I'll open the commission list after Labor Day. This Daredevil portrait was done for Sacramento earlier this year. Have a great weekend!

Wacky Reference Wednesdays, No. 315

THE ORIGINAL. 2014. Ink(ed by Joe Rivera)
on bristol board with digital color, 11 × 17″.

A couple years ago I was contacted by Sean Miller, an independent comic creator, who wanted to know if I'd be willing to do a cover for his book. Although I didn't know him or his work, he was obviously dedicated to the project. He said he'd only started drawing a few years prior (which I still find hard to believe) and he's only improved since.

If you'll be at StocktonCon this weekend, be sure to stop by his booth — he'll have prints of the cover,  as well as a pin-up that he drew and I colored, signed by both of us.

Wacky Reference Wednesdays, No. 314

HELLBOY AND THE B.P.R.D.: 1953 #3 PAGE 15.
2016. Photoshop (#kylebrush), 4593 × 6600 px.

This page was part of a sequence that required multiple views of the same scene. To help stage the elements, I drew a crude plan on bristol, and sculpted the monster out of a kneaded eraser. You can see another angle here.

Down below, you can see some of the additional reference collected online, as well as the script and sketches used to plan out the page. The 3-issue series, written by Mike Mignola and Chris Roberson, is now available in trade.

Baltimore Comic Con Commission

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN STYLE GUIDE. 2013
Ink(ed by Joe Rivera) with watercolor on bristol board, 11 × 17″.

My dad and (inker extraordinaire), Joe Rivera, will be at Baltimore Comic Con next month. While I won't be attending, we are auctioning, via eBay, a spot for a single full-figure commission on 11x17 paper.

I will pencil the figure, and he will ink/watercolor a print of the drawing, just like the example above. The winner of the auction will receive both originals, pencils (signed by me) and final artwork (signed by him).

We'll complete the artworks before the show and he will hand-deliver it, so you or an acquaintance must plan to attend. Thanks!

SFCC Commission List

DAREDEVIL. 2016. Ink & watercolor on paper, 9 × 12″.

I'm opening up the list for San Francisco Comic Con! There are 3 options, all of them head-shots (examples here). Please let me know which character you'd like (and any particular era, costume, or expression).

1. 9 × 12″ watercolor portrait:       $250 (no sketch covers)
2. 9 × 12″ ink & color wash:         $120 ($160 on sketch cover)
3. 9 × 12″ ink:                               $80 ($100 on sketch cover)

Just email me at contact:at:paolorivera.com to get on the list. I can't guarantee I'll get to all of them, but I'll do as many as I can. If you put the character in the subject line, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

ATTACK ON TITAN 1. 2016.
Ink(ed by Joe Rivera) on bristol board with digital color, 11 × 17″.

In case you hadn't heard, I did a series of covers and pin-ups for the American edition of Attack on Titan. This was the first of three, one of which was fully painted.
